Skate and Create: Tyreek Morrison

As you know I’m a big fan of customs and there’s nothing that gives me greater joy than a well executed custom. It used to be all about painting on sneakers and while that is still very dope, my latest interest is in the form of sole swapping and no-one does it better than stateside DJ & skater Tyreek Morrison.

I first came across Tyreek skating on instagram (shoutout to the explore page), and as if one talent wasn’t enough, he then showcased a sole swapped Off-white blazer, merged with a boot sole. This quickly went viral and was picked up by the likes of Lil Jupiter and other accounts. Personally I would go as far as saying this is the Nike release we need but haven’t gotten yet. Forget Air Max Day, if there’s a blazer day, Tyreek’s customs would kill it!

Should this become the next silhouette with Nike then we all know EXACTLY who it came from. Given that he understands functionality through his skating and gives each shoe a rigorous test drive, I imagine that each custom is also both stylish and comfortable, whether you’re in the skatepark or a moshpit!

The beauty of the silhouettes that Tyreek chooses to customise, is their adaptability to various styles. As a sneaker boot it can be dressed up or down, worn with trousers or a skirt or even a dress, it lends itself to a number of aesthetics. For me it would be cliche to see Tyreek custom a Nike SB, so instead I’d like to see him revive the Nike Vandal with a custom (Nike if you’re reading this, listen), perhaps it could even be first seen on Lil Wayne.

Currently his customs are 1 of 1 but should this ever go into production, with or without Nike, I’m all in. I’ve been waiting since late last year so, Just Do It !
