In what will be a Vandalway first, I’m about to put you guys on to an Australian brand! Browsing through Instagram I came across a brand that brilliantly puts together an exploration of a variety of industries, particularly those that incorporate utility clothing.
Amxander has dominated down under but its time for me to be a part of its expansion by shedding light on their designs. Using a fairly monotonous palate, the brand is able to to create pieces that represent various intersections of society. From tactical and utility jackets to constrast stitched puffer jackets.
What I like most about this brand in comparison to other ‘utility/uniform’ inspired brands, is the fit of the attire. Rather than taking the lazy, almost ‘one size fits all’ approach to design, the pieces appear intentionally fitted without having to be tailored to a particular body type. They are constructed in a way that allows them to fit as intended. This is evident in the brand’s SS20 ‘Enguard’ collection which featured items such as overshirts and constrasting leather materials.
Utility and sportswear can often look clunky due to the addition of things like extra pockets, fasteners, and mixed material, but Amxander is able to make it look clean. One example of this would be the Buckled tactical trousers (picture 2) which can be worn in many different ways. With such pieces I can’t wait to see Amxander make its way from down under to up and over in the UK.
