From the days of working with Kodak Black if there’s one thing I can tell you it’s that Haitians are naturally fly. They have a unique way of putting things together and enjoy the process of dressing up. So it’s no surprise to find a Haitian designer that deserves to be thrust into the spotlight with his captivating collection.

Daveed Baptiste is the latest designer and multi-disciplinary artist to remind us of the boldness of Caribbean fashion, with his debut collection titled ‘Ti Maché’, Creole for ‘Little Market’. Baptiste’s garments are well suited to an emboldened persona with his curved piped denims and gingham two pieces.

Each part of the collection is rooted in rich storytelling about Haiti’s history, his childhood, agriculture, and landscape. The collection exudes flamboyance, meshing masculine and feminine, with pieces such as the accordion dress shirt and the tiny pleat jacket which makes for a perfectly androgynous motif.

Baptiste’s pieces have a sense of warped reality as each garment is reimagined for movement and freedom and while this is his ‘Little Market’ Baptiste has definitely done his BIG one with this collection.
