If you remember, earlier this year What We Wear opened up London Fashion Week Mens, so it’s only right that they closed SS19, only this time they did it in collaboration Amsterdam based brand, Daily Paper. With the world cup being well and truly upon us, the football/sports theme couldn’t be more appropriate.
Against a backdrop of words that are associated with the beautiful game, models walked out in What We Wear emblazoned jerseys, vests, and even shirts (maybe for those all-important press conferences) all paired with What We Wear x Filling Pieces sneakers (more on Filling Pieces later). For the second half of the show the brand rolled out the Daily Paper collaboration capsule. The collection utilized an orange colour palate, appropriate for both summer and autumn as they experiment with a variety of materials.
What We Wear has been making steady progress in the fashion industry, as they deliver minimalist pieces season after season, and a collaboration with Daily Paper is fitting seeing as Daily Paper are dominating the European market and look set to do even greater this year! Backstage it becomes evident that WWW is a brand for the culture, Tinie has done well to produce street wear that is malleable to various style contexts and while this may have been football themed, the team was playing no games when putting this together!
Unlike the busy nature in the design of actual football shirts, the entire collection is clean and contemporary and wouldn’t look out of place outside of a pitch. The collection with Daily Paper, brings together clever design by fusing elements of formal wear with streetwear. This is evident in pieces such as the pinstripe two piece jacket and trousers, side-zipped checked trousers and a paneled jacket; which results in well-fitting garments suitable for any occasion!
What We Wear SS19 show was the perfect ending to London Fashion Week Mens as it brought British fashion home (now if we could just get the whole England team wearing it). Massive thank you and well done to the What We Wear family, especially Kelly and Bisola!
