It’s no secret that the CSM graduate shows exhibits the best and most promising fashion designers in the city. Each time I watch a graduate show it’s full of expectation and an insight into a new style of design we might see in the seasons to come.
Easily one of my favourite designers out of CSM are Freddy Coomes and Matt Empringham, with their whimsical, playful takes on everyday garments. Using more technical methods, the duo puts together 3D versions of pieces such as scarves, argyle sweaters, and jerseys.
Both take fashion back to a place of discovery; answering “what if?” with each of their designs as they engineer a new perspective. It’s no wonder that they’ve both already interned with Loewe and JW Anderson’s Jonathan Anderson as both share a love for boundary pushing design. While already popular with editorials, I’m ready to see more of the pairs curiosity in ready to wear options. As the boys keep answering design questions of what if, and why not? I’m relishing the output of them being all work AND all play!
