Whilst the noise around London Fashion Week may have calmed down, we’re still dissecting some of the shows and presentations, one of them being a presentation by our long-time favourite designer Astrid Andersen. Doing a presentation was something different for Astrid given that she usually does shows. However having spoken with the designer, she felt a presentation gave her a forum for press and guests to ask questions and fully understand the thought process behind the collection.

Upon walking into the space we were able to see an ideas board from materials to sketches that appear to have taken inspiration from reptiles and amphibians. The ideas board shows us pieces of the collection as a teaser to what awaits deep within, filling us with anticipation and a raft of questions for her. This presentation provokes discourse into Astrid’s creative process, turning “the backstage into the mainstage” and ensures a continuous dialogue long after Fashion Week has ended.

From satin two-pieces to snake skin embossed track pants, Astrid maintains the balance between statement piece and understated by not using the full vigour of the animal prints. As the result, the pieces are not overdone and the eye is naturally drawn to the cut and design. Using a colour palate of gold, silver, orange, and blue, she creates athletic inspired pieces that are beautifully finished.

Astrid’s collection has taken inspiration from what may be considered to be beasts, drawn out the best parts of them, and turned it into a plethora of bold pieces with simplistic designs. For a first presentation it doesn’t get any better, proof being that it was swarmed with prospective buyers. Following that, we look forward to the making of AW19 as we have now received a full taster of what goes on inside the mind of Astrid Andersen and are left feeling…inspired!
