If you know anything about Paria Farzaneh, you’ll know she’s one of those people who always keep it real. In both her design theme and her character Paria is known for saying it as it is and that certainly came across in FW19 show. The show had an interesting setting with models emerging from a ‘bedroom’ set straight on to a conveyor belt which the models glided across.
As soon as the models got on to the conveyor belt they immediately took out their phones and began recording the crowd. Ironically of course, we were doing the same. This show took a direct shot at the ‘social media generation’ and our instinctive need to record everything from the start of our day without taking notice of anything around us.
Showcasing the pieces on a conveyor belt was beneficial to the audience as we were able to get slow motion views of each outfit and appreciate the beauty. Whilst there were still elements of her trademark Paisley print, Paria focused more on more structured, and in some cases angular two-pieces perfect for the current climate.
From rain proof tracksuits, to chore jackets and windbreakers, the collection brought a structured essence to streetwear. With some pieces looking arctic appropriate and other looking more lux such as the quilted trousers and jackets. Paria uses a cream/beige base pallet and then introduces autumnal colours such as olive green, navy and orange. As usual each look is paired with custom Converse featuring the trademark paisley print.
At the end of the runway the models walk into a box where they stay until the end of the show, it’s unknown whether this is significant of society or whether it was a logistical decision. Either way, it was duly noted. While Paria’s show provoked introspection on our behaviour in the digital age, I’m still glad we were able to capture such fire looks, with or without our phones this show will be in my memory for some time!
