Danielle Cathari: Female Creative Genius

If you’ve been following me on Instagram for a while now, you’ll know that since last winter I have been raving about a young designer by the name of Danielle Cathari. So who is she? Well, Danielle is a 23 year old designer making waves in womenswear through her debut collection with Adidas which remixes the 90s streetwear era to create striking, flattering, tracksuits. I first met Danielle at the Converse One-Star Hotel and also attended her talk prior to the release of the Adidas Originals collection and one thing is certain she is passionate about her craft which translates to the pieces themselves.

What really surprises me is how Danielle has been able to create a range that appeals to all types of women. Typically sporty womenswear is predictable and traditional (pink, cropped and exclusionary sizing) and does not open itself up to women with different styles. However with the angular structure of the pieces, this lend itself to various types of fits and sizes, from ultra feminine to androgynous- something which I’ve been looking forward to seeing for some time now.

With the first release selling out worldwide (believe me I checked), this was proof Danielle had delivered exactly what women AND men all over the world wanted, and the restock was no different. Connecting with people outside the Adidas store on drop day, they had all bought an item from the first release (or had tried) and were back for more. Even more proof of her success was recent imitations we had seen from other brands, whilst the highest form of flattery, the execution and quality remains unmatched.

At such an early stage in her career, Danielle has set the benchmark for female design collaborations as I believe more brands should take cues from her by collaborating with designers that aren’t afraid to deviate from the status quo to give us something unexpected but welcomed, that is so good the men want it too! What is even more exciting is that on Instagram, Danielle has been teasing her upcoming collection under her own brand, this has been eagerly awaited since I caught up with her during Paris Fashion Week Mens in June.

The support for Danielle Cathari among the female audience has been outstanding, so I’m hoping we keep the same energy for her own brand as I’m sure she will keep the same quality and design perfection. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for the drop date but till then I will be rocking all 3 jackets I’ve acquired from her Adidas collection and maybe even looking for more!
