As a PFW first, I decided to attend the Études show as I’ve been a fan of the brand for some time now. I didn’t know what to expect , but the show was nothing short of exciting; with a plethora of looks that I’d replicate straight from the runway!
The show titled “Diffusion/Illusion” makes reference to the expansive geographies of the world and how through the adaptive macroecononics of the global climate, we have actually become closer despite our distance.
Set against an ombre curtain background, I was keen to see how Études would bring the theme to life. The brand kicked off the show with vibrant safety orange as the base colour for the pieces which were then dyed in parts to create a heat pressed look. Each of these were paired with the newly released Adidas Supercourt, Études bags (which i love!) and stainless steel eyewear.
Études also introduce the use of pleats on its tailored tie-dye pieces which make for an understated yet interesting piece due to the use of earthy colours. The Études all over print pieces such as the acid wash jeans and monochrome vest could easily be wardrobe staples.
To make the clear statement of diffusion/illusion, some of the pieces have the Wikipedia definition of diffusion and illusion printed across them. To further highlight dynamism in Études design repertoire, the brand printed the work of Canadian artist Chloe Wise on silk shirts and slip dresses. Chloe’s work such as ‘Tormently Untainted 2019’ and ‘You definitely lied to the right person 2019’ is fitting giving its ability to solicit dialogue as it strays away from classical group portraiture. The same can be said for the theme of diffusion being an illusion as a topical conversation.
Finally, Études showcased a number of accesories in collaboration with Porter. From a chest bag to a side pouch in Études blue nylon, these will be the perfect finish to an outfit. As far as collections go, Études could do no wrong. It’s rare that I’m drawn to all looks on the runway but its easy to see something for you in each fit which goes to show the world isn’t as diffused as we think! A job well done to Jose Lamali, Jeremie Egry, Aurelien Arbet and the PR Consulting team.
