I’m a sucker for New York based brands as I believe their work has an an element of grit and artistic cohesion. Often I find that stories of the lives of those around the designers are well woven into the garments. One such brand that accurately depicts this is Brooklyn based, Savant Studios.
I was first introduced to the brands “Forever Truckers” which features gemstones along the front, a true masterpiece design that adds flair the everyday trucker. From then I fell in love with both the brands design and artistic direction. There’s a rustic element in the way the garments are shot; opting for vintage canvas or even bamboo shoot backdrops.
Each of the brands pieces has an earthy, almost lived in aesthetic from its denim gilets to the patchwork totes, which aptly represents the various backgrounds stitched together in the Brooklyn neighbourhood. Savant’s artisanal collection showcases their ability to rework leather and suede into various handbag shapes. Their recent collection with Todd Snyder another beloved New York designer, added to the rich story telling ability of the brand; tying in inspiration from Savant Founder Mike Graham’s childhood memories and experiences. Judging by the way in which Graham meticulously pieces garments together you’re sure to feel fashion savvy in Savant Studios.
