The Studio Alch show was one I’d been looking forward to given the brand’s presentations in previous seasons; and with material waste being one of the most of the prominent topics in the public domain, I was intrigued to see how the brand would highlight this.
Studio Alch didn’t stray too far from its often seen utility theme, giving us utility vests complete with bottle holders and even a collaboration with Greatness Dex to create a multipurpose harness. Designer Alexandra Hackett aka Mini Swoosh then paired her creations with boxy shirts and accents of neon green.
Whilst we still see the brand’s trademark use of nylon for technical wear, what I admire is the co-ords created which are clearly inspired by plastic bags, no doubt in reference to plastic waste and its impact on our environment. It’s great to see Studio Alch bring the topic of sustainability to the forefront of fashion using her platform to solicit dialogue.
The prints and graphics bring a fun, almost relaxed element to upcycled fashion which forms an interesting composition when paired with utility or technical wear. Studio Alch uses this collection to symbolise a shift in the utilization of single use plastic, to alter consumer habits and embed a new mantra of USE, RE-USE, REMIX.
