After endlessly promoting him to anyone who would listen, its about time I wrote about one of my favourite designers, Rhuigi Villaseñor.
Rhuigi is the founder of luxury streetwear brand Rhude which has been growing from strength to strength. In its early days, the brand gave me strong punk vibes with its printed tees but it was the signature traxedo trousers that really took off and became a strong silhouette imitated also by fast fashion brands. I now notice elements of references taken from the automotive industry with clear messaging evident on each piece.
Whether its swimming trunks, eyewear, jackets, or even socks inspired by cigarette packaging, Rhuigi has ingenuity down to an art form. He recently held a Rhude flea market which is something we can only dream of having here in London (seriously please do a pop-up).
Rhuigi is unrelenting as the Rhude brand embarks on a number of collaborations with brand such as Mountain Dew, Vans, and even Puma which is rumoured to be out next month. As a self confessed sneakerhead, his mid-top sneaker with part metal midsole is a must cop!
Rhude clothing is perfect for the season ahead and the hype around the brand continues to build as it becomes more available with stockists worldwide. I’d love to see Rhuigi take on concept pieces as that is where he truly flourishes; taking a reference point outside of industry and using it to create or compliment an item of clothing. His eye for detail is exhibited in his work, you only have to look at the finishing to see that. One collaboration I’d like to see would probably be Rhude x L’Art De L’Automobile, what Rhuigi and Arthur Kar would create would be nothing short of amazing.
As Rhuigi climbs lofty heights in fashion, evident from his Forbes 30 Under 30 recognition, Rhude gets hotter and hotter, at this point we’re in for a Rhude summer or maybe Rhude 2019!
