LFWM Recap: Edward Crutchley Glams up the runway!

2019 kicked off with a bang with the start of LFWM A/W 19.  The unexpected move from The Strand to The Old Truman Brewery added to the anticipation of  what the weekend would bring. With a packed schedule on my hands, I waited to see which shows would put on a captivating display.  Starting off with a bang was the Edward Crutchley show, with models opening the runway in magical black ensembles.

From the relaxed black suits, paired with Christian Louboutin heels, to the patterned jumpsuits, and embroidered robes, the whole show oozed regal elegance. Crutchley uses a a mix of materials against a dark palette that gives each garment a vibrant sheen effect.  These pieces are well suited to the glitz and glamour of the holiday season thanks to the evening wear attire.

The endless display of silk & satin sashaying down the runway couples with the tropical prints is reminiscent of the 80s with the flowing silhouettes and opulence. Even the accessories played in role in channelling this aesthetics, from ear to nose rings, to rounded sunglasses.

For those that are unafraid of making an entrance, this is certainly the collection for you. At the end of the show, Crutchley trades the high drama undertone for some comical humour by swapping the models footwear from hardsoles to fluffly slippers, because even fashion can’t be taken too seriously.  All in all, a real head turner befitting for the Grace Jones, or Hugh Heffner in all of us!
